Griskus Triathlons in the Press!
Pat Griskus Triathlon SeriesNow in its 21st year, the Pat Griskus Triathlon series caters to athletes of all abilities by offering both original sprint race and a seven year old Olympic distance event. The sprint lures scads of first-timers with the promise a shiny medal while the longer course proves challenging enough to attract the sports best. Renamed in 1987 to honor Pat Griskus, who was struck and killed by a truck just one year after becoming the first amputee to complete the Hawaii Ironman twice, the series has raised over $130,000 for charity. Held at Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury, Connecticut, the race kicks off with a swim in spring fed Lake Quassapaug. Once jolted into action, resist the urge to hop on the merry-go-round or take a whack with the giant hammer as you keep cruising toward the bike course. After a grueling opening six miles of downhills, flats and sharp curves, uphill enthusiasts take revenge with a nine-mile steady ascent. Both camps get the chance to regroup and make nice with a varied final 10 miles of topography. A double-loop run rounds out the competition.
